Ms Ramona McCarthy

The purpose of the Home-School Community Liaison (HSCL) service in Ennis Community College and Gaelcholáiste an Chláir is to provide support to the parents/guardians in order to improve educational outcomes for children. The scheme aims to promote partnership and co-operation between home, school and the community to make sure that every child receives an equal opportunity for education in our school. The involvement of parents is key to the vision of the HSCL Scheme. Parents are provided with an opportunity to be involved in their child’s education through community initiatives, designed to support literacy, numeracy and positive engagement.

The HSCL Co-ordinator assists parents/guardians by providing support in the following areas:

  • Support parents/guardians in their role as the primary educators of their children.
  • Provide a welcoming school environment and Listen to parental concerns by providing home visits or meetings in the Parents’ Room.
  • Organise talks and that will support parents in educating their child. All talks and courses that are organised will be based on the requests and needs of parents/ guardians.
  • Facilitate courses for parents to support them in lifelong learning.
  • Encourage and support parents who wish to have an active part in the school community.
  • Develop the pupil-parent-teacher relationship, so that school becomes a place where all young people can reach their potential.
  • Establish/maintain/participate in the Local Education Committee which seeks to respond to school-related issues at community level, that impinge on learning and to seek to address these issues, by working collaboratively with parents, students, voluntary and statutory agencies.
