Literacy Week 2018

It’s Literacy Week at Ennis Community College, running from Monday 5th – Friday 9th of March. The event aims to foster and encourage a love of reading among our students. Teachers of all subjects are putting an emphasis on literacy. The events planned for the week are as follows:

Monday 5 March

Mr Carragher’s 3rd Year English Class will attend a Junior Cycle Poetry workshop in DeValera Library from 10 to 11.30am.

Tuesday 6 March

Lunch-time table quiz for 3rd Year Students in Room 31, from 1:20 pm to 1:45 pm. Prize for the winning team.

Wednesday 7 March

Lunch-time table quiz for 2nd Year Students in Room 31, from 1:20 pm to 1:45 pm. Prize for the winning team.

Rap Workshop with Gary McCarthy for First Year and Second Year Students. This is also part of the JCSP Literacy initiative.

Thursday 8th March

Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Bash.

Each First Year class group will attend a workshop to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Seuss. This will involve setting up stations where the students will take part in a range of reading and creative activities in relation to the characters and settings of his many books.

  • Period 2 & 3 – Clannad
  • Period 5 & 6 – Dervish
  • Period 7 & 8 – Bothy

Throughout the Week

Ms McDermott is working on some art work with her classes connected to Junior Cycle Poetry, and will unveil a new piece of art for our literacy corridor.
