Celebrating 75 Years

Celebrating 75 Years

The following is reprinted from The Clare Champion dated Friday February 21, 2014, with their kind permission:

It was a trip down memory lane for visitors to Ennis Community College when the school celebrated an historic 75th year of educating the county’s young people. As part of the anniversary celebrations, the school held an open day with past pupils, young and old, invited to walk the corridors of the school and recall their
schooldays.

There was a display of photographs, documents and press cuttings from the college’s history and an opportunity to learn about some of the more recent developments, such as the establishment of
Gaelcholáiste an Chláir and the development of third-level Post Leaving Certificate courses awarded at Ennis College of Further Education.

Musical entertainment for the open day was provided by the college band and a new website for the college was also launched as part of the festivities. As well as the open day, the anniversary celebrations also included a gala dinner in the Temple Gate Hotel.

In 1938, the technical school was first opened on Harmony Row, with the site now occupied by Ennis Community College, co-located with Ennis College of Further Education, providing a range of
certifi ed training courses for adult learners and with Gaelcholáiste an Chláir, Clare’s only Irish-medium secondary school. The school operates under the auspices of the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board.
