Parents’ Association

The Education Act of 1998 gave a statutory role to parents that allowed them a central part in their children’s education within the school community.

The Act makes provision for parents, at local level, to voice their opinions and ideas on the very important subject of education for their children.

This voice becomes more effective if organised through a strong Parents’ Association. Parents who are active in their associations show their children that they, the parents, are interested not only in their academic progress at school but in their overall development as well.

We, here, in the College view Parents as equal partners in the education process and we firmly believe that the full co-operation and support of parents is an essential ingredient in the delivery of an effective education to students.

We acknowledge the great work of past Parents’ Councils in securing better student services, in assisting with policy development, in fundraising and in their organisation of talks for students and parents on a wide variety of topics.

The following are the Parents’ representatives on the Ennis Community College Parents’ Association for 2007:

Chair: Mrs. Marian Lafferty, Inagh
Secretary: Mrs. Catherine Ryan, Lissycasey
Treasurer: Mr. Martin Killeen, Knockanean

Committee Members: Mrs. Angela Donnellan, Corofin; Mrs. Mary Dormer, Ennis; Ms. Chinwe Obadeyi, Ennis; Mrs. Breda O’Sullivan, Kilmaley; Mr. Joe O’Halloran, Craughwell; Mrs. Betty Mullins, Kilnaboy; Mrs. Breda Ryan, Ennis; Mrs. Mary Griffey, Inch

Parents are encouraged to communicate their ideas, views and / or concerns through their local P.A. Representative. This in turn will influence the content of meeting agendas and help broaden discussion at meetings.

Wishing our Parents’ Association every success in their endeavours in the year ahead.
